Hi guys,

I'm thinking of getting certified in Comptia A+...I'm changing my career path and getting into IT. I'm presuming A+ is the way to start? Any advice? Since I don't want to spend a lot of time in it, and since (as I've heard) A+ is a relatively basic course, I saw this company which appeals to me. Has anyone heard of Firebrand? Its London based, and they claim they can get me certified in 4 days...anyone been to their training? If yes, any feedback will be very helpful.

Thanks a lot!

 Azn tbarbosa,
IT is a huge field and to be honest if something sounds to good too be true it normally is, to get the Comptia A+ in 4 days you will need to be well introduced to the workings of a PC or be like Joe 90 and go in the spinning cage and have your brain programmed from someone who knows it inside out. I have not done the course so I only know from what I have seen of the course it is quite involved depends what you call basic.

Good luck but to be honest with you from the way your talking you don't seem to know what you want to do and if it's PC repairs or help desk etc I'm not sure your understanding what is involved. But best of luck to you in your change of career path wish you all the very best. Take care

Hi,
I have just completed the course, and you really need to know a bit before you start, at least the parts used and how to reconise, the slight difference some have.I had worked on computers at home for a few years before i got round to doing the test, for the same reason as you.I done one evening class a week for 6 months and read a few big books, its really in your own interest to know as much as you can and it changes so fast, if you dont know much about computers then you will never do it in 4 days, they say the course has to be equal to 500 working hours so a lot to squeeze in.But if you want to check it out try getting a book, Comptia A+ Certification by mike meyers, its about 25 euro and has a CD with test questions, tips, etc. If you are thinking of getting into the field its worth learning as much as you can lots of people think they know about how computers work but if you do really know and take the time to learn  well it will be easier to find work and yes it is the best stepping stone but really networking is the way to go and that would be the next course so good luck dude, keep us posted on how your doing....enjoy........

If you are planning to start a career in IT then a 4 days training of A+ will not help you much. This is very basic and doesn't cover the entire IT field. If you don not want to spend much time, then go for some online associate or degree program. May be computer technician degree would help you, as it covers every aspect of IT field. It can open up various career paths also.http://www.computertechnician.net/different-career-paths-for-computer-technicians
Nowadays many reputed colleges are having provisions for online computer courses. They also help the students with study materials and online lectures. So degree program, so that you can excel in the IT field.

Remember the free help too mate.

http://www.briteccomputers.co.uk/forum/chit-chat/excellent-resource-site-for-a-certification/

If you start yawning and fall asleep half way through any of these videos then it's probably not the right path for you young grasshopper.

If you are too excited to sleep eagerly awaiting the next video, then you will have found your path to enlightenment. (i.e. pc technician.)

Good luck!

Would seem that he is very eager to get his A+ , but what can say with that is just the beginning of a very long path and depending on where you want to go with it . You will get a hunger for doing more , but one thing you have to do is pick your field of work and try to stick with it and get all the hands on that you can in that field  before moving onto other things.

Found that doing the Net + after it as the A+ does give you a taster for that, then you can follow that up with Security + and that kind of gives you a good base grounding in those fields and something for you to then get your hands dirty in those lines of work bit by bit.
