Hello, I'm new to this forum. I have an hp pavilion a1650y costumized desktop pc.
win xp media 2005
intel pentium d915 2.8 ghz, 4mb, 800mhz fsb
2 gb ddr2-533mhz dual channel sdram (2x1024)
160gb 7200 rpm sata hd
single cd-dvd rw, 256mb nvidia geforce 7500le, tv out, dvi, vga.
9 in 1 memory card reader, 3 usb, 1394, audio, it has a wireless card, and built in tv tuner.
This thing has never run right and my buddy brought it to me to fix.
I first tried to turn it on and i would get the blue screen error, never the same one though always something different.
so I tried to wipe the hd and reinstall a xp cd from one of my dell's, ofcourse that would always hang about half way through installation.
Then I took it to a tech he ran diagnostics and said that the hardware was all good. So I ordered restore disk's for specific model.  !Didn't work!
It formats okay but won't load any files to hd. I called tech support from restoredisk.com, he said bad hard drive. I put hd in a dell loads xp fine.
put it back in hp and it freezes at the xp logo screen. The only thing i can find wrong is that when i run a memtest it does not show a chipset.
But i'm not the smartest  guy in the world so i don't even know if it's suppose to. I'm getting flustrated and was hoping somebody here might be able to help.
sorry if I haven't posted enough info but hope this helps.
I also forgot to add that i have succesfully downloaded the xp live cd and the hirens software and it will run those live cd's fine. even gets online and everything. It seems like it's just having prob's comunicating with the hd.

 Azn nissmo33

Its going to be hard for me to tell you whats happening without looking at the machine, but I will try and help you with some advice in things to check or get checked.

First off I need to know what the blue screen said? and what the error code was?
Ok so you have had a problem with the computer and you format the computer with a DELL Disc? and the same problem is still there?
Your need to get hold of a proper copy of Windows XP and try that.

If your have same problems after a format its more than likely Hardware related.
common bad hardware for lock ups are: Ram, Motherboard

Important: System could be overheating

What hardware did the computer tech test?

Thanks Britec  for the quick response.
As far as the BSOD message I've seen the can't find hive, the hal error, and several others.
That's what is so puzzling that it's never the same error.
The tech checked all the hardware and found a bad stick of ram. So he removed it.

I've been thinking it's a bad processsor or MB, but if that were so would it run live cd's and surf the web ok?
It doesn't seem to be overheating. When I used the Hiren's software it shows the temp of the hd and processor to be 38 and
40 deg. F. Everyone told me that I had to have the original restore disk to fix it.
So I ordered a set and it started good through the format but when it got to loading it just freezes.
I'm totally confused!

By the way I love all your tutorials and videos, I've learned a lot.
Thanks

Okay I turned the pc on 2day and it comes up with:

BSOD error: bad-system-config-info
stop: 0x00000074 (0x00000003, 0x00000002, 0x80087000, 0xc000014c)
Does this help?
