Hi There to All,

What are OEM VERSIONS?

The top  PC makers sell millions of PCs per month between them, with Windows already installed. When you start up that PC for the first time, you accept two license agreements, one with the manufacturer and one with Microsoft.

The PC maker is required to provide support for Windows. Except for security issues, Microsoft will not provide free support for any issues you have with Windows purchased from an OEM.

You can upgrade any components or peripherals on your PC and keep your license intact. You can replace the motherboard with an identical model or an equivalent model from the OEM if it fails. However, if you personally replace or upgrade the motherboard, your OEM Windows license is null and void.

Your copy of Windows is locked to the PC on which you purchased it. You cannot transfer that license to another PC.

Windows activation is typically not required when Windows is preinstalled by a royalty OEM. Instead, these copies are pre-activated at the factory. Your copy of Windows will be automatically reactivated if you reinstall it using the media or recovery partition from the PC maker, it will not require activation.

Make your own Recovery Disks using the instructions that came with your PC, if you cannot do this then you may be able to purchase Recovery Disks from the PC manufacturer.

Hi there,

When you say that the Recovery Partition failed , do you mean that you could not access it or that you lost it, maybe wiped the HDD?

If you have wiped the HDD you may be able to recover the partition with Partition Recovery Software such as Spinright available here:http://www.grc.com/spinrite.htm

or Active@Boot CD available here.http://www.ntfs.com/boot-disk.htm

Hi Bri,

Thanks for the comment, I can put others up for other versions if you think it will helpful.

Gotta question, do you think we could have a sticky that basically says that when posters put up their problem that they indicate what OS they are running, System and other relevant info etc. It would cut down on one line posts like 'what OS are you running' if this kind of info was provided first off and any help would be better targeted/tailored with a quicker response time that this would allow.  Also a reminder to post seperate problems to the correct board and not jumble them into one post?

Cheers,

I check to see if you can move posts that are in wrong section, you should be able to.
