Hi All,

This is for anyone who is running McAfee AV application.

In a very recent (2/3 days ) A McAfee definition update 5958, had marked out a critical Windows system file as malicious code. This definition deletes the SVCHOST.EXE file and prevents many of Windows services from starting, or reboots andmany  other problems. This could effect any number of XP SP3 machines that are running this application.

McAfee has now reissued the 5958 DAT file as 5959 DAT.  So if you are running McAfee AV go to the following links that provide more information and fixes.

http://vil.nai.com/vil/5958_false.htm for business/corporate users

http://service.mcafee.com/faqdocument.aspx?id=TS100969 for home users.

Cheers, Hope this helps,

ticker
