Hi there,

For all those members out there who are security conscious, and we all are, are'nt we? We all know about Rogue/Fake AV Security Programs that are based on a false sense of security, which infect your machine, sticking up realistic and genuine looking GUI's followed by no end of pop-up's,installing other malware and other nasties and telling you how badly you are infected, rendering your machine unusable in the worst cases and demanding a registration fee in all of them so that you can clean up your PC.

Well it appears that the next wave of attacks is going to come from Rogue AV Testers that are in a similar vein but are based on a false sense of insecurity. Here is a snippet of a blog from Zdnet, read the rest at the link below, and then you will be aware of what to look out for.

Well, as we know the rogue AV business model is based on selling a false sense of security; we professionals know it is fake, but the victims don’t. People buy a Rogue AV hoping it will solve their security problems, but the products don’t do anything at best, and at worst, install additional malware.

Rogue AV Testers are somehow similar in behavior. In their case, the business model is no longer based on a false sense of security but instead, on a false sense of insecurity.
