Hi ,

I have a HP a6230uk, about two weeks ago it crashed. I reinstall the OS Vista HP and it crashed again. I can get to the BIOS screen and change the boot up menu so that the machine boots up from disc, but that's it. The machine is only 3/4 years old and has had little use. I'm fairly  savvy with computers but this has totally baffled me.

Should it Bryan?...The thing is I bought it 3 years ago...never unpacked it as my HP 608 was working well. Only 'unpacked' this one 7/8 months ago as my niece's computer went belly up, and gave her the 608.

The loop is for sure a mystery.....probably hardware failure, but where to start?

what sort of crash, please describe it in as much detail as you can, does it blue screen? any error messages?

It would be a good idea to fit a new BIOS battery too as it has been sitting unpacked for all this time, the BIOS battery would be drained somewhat by now.

Thx JH for the interest.

The computer sometimes Bsod's are sometimes just loops back to the BIOS screen...its random. Changed the BIOS battery last week - made no difference. Managed on one occasion to get Linux OS on, but again after updating it went looping again. A real head scratcher !!

 Huh?
