hi....

i' came across this site while googling for my problem and finding  a video on youtube. Anyways, coming to the problem. I was having a problem with my hdd yesterday, the disk was showing as offline and reactivating it from the Computer Management was not working, and converting it to basic partition would have destroyed all data. Anyways, following the advise on the said website, i made one partition primary (using the software TestDisk) BUT when i restarted my PC, only one partition was showing and the rest of the disk was showing as unallocated space in the Computer Management. All the data on those drives is ... gone (i hope not, because after using some recovery softwares like Recover My Files, GetData,EASEUS Data Recovery Wizard, EASEUS Partition Master  I can see in the search some known files).

BUT I haven't run extensive search on the above softwares because this is not i want.   I'm looking for a software which can help me get my partitions back, but after extensive googling, i think its not possible? Also, am not really sure and understand how to use the tutorial on this website about TestDisk, which in the first place screwed my hdd (or maybe i did it )


So, i would be very very thankful if someone can please guide me if its possible to recover the partitions, so i can get my important data which i've collected over the years. If not, please do tell, what is the quickest and fastest way to get the data back as its really getting irritating now as i've not slept since yesterday because of this problem :(

I'm just a bit intrigued by this though,no windows installed? what does it mean?

Anyhow,how many partitions did you have on your drive, just two? one of which is now unallocated?

A quick scan at your post tells me you accidentally deleted your partition.

Will guide you through the steps to get your partition and data back, no need to lose any sleep, you should be OK.

Any info on what you were doing or what happened before your disk went offline? any info would be helpful.

i've installed windows on another 40GB hdd. i was using this SATA hdd as a secondary hdd purely for storing data.

as for the partitions, i really don't remember how many, i had a few 50gb partitions and one 100gb partition.

as for what caused this, i recently bought a 1tb hdd(SATA), was copying data from this 640gb to the new hdd. the new hdd was having some issues, i changed the SATA cables and when i started the system, the disk went offline, tried changing the cables and it didn't worked, tried to activate the partition, didn't worked at all. Then used the testdisk and now am in stress.

All that i now see is one partition(50gb), the data of which i can't copy to another drive for some odd reason and 546GB unallocated space  


if there is something else to be known, please do tell me so i can tell about it as well for recovering of data.

UPDATE:
just checked the 50gb partition and its NOT showing any files which were previously showing, maybe its because of the LONGgggggggg chkdsk which happened when i started the system?

Have you tested the drive to make sure its ok? if the drive is ok you may be able to do data recovery with getdataback or what ever data recovery program you want to use.

Do Not start scanning the drive for data recovery if the drive is real bad and on its last legs, as it could let go at anytime and then the drive would fail to work which could cost alot of money to recover data from.

It is also possible to recover lost partitions with programs like Active@ Partition Recovery and http://www.ptdd.com/
