I have a MSI U100 and I want to reinstall Win Xp from USB Thumb drive. I need help to configure my netbook to boot up first from my thumbdrive so I can install the OS. I can get to the BIOS but I'm not sure how to set it up this way.

Processor Intel Atom N270 / 1.6 GHz

Hard Drive 80.0 GB - Serial ATA-150

Memory:    DDR2 667,(Not sure of memory size now) Max 2 gigs

Graphics:    Intel® GMA 3150

Data Bus Speed 533.0 MHz

Chipset Type Mobile Intel 945GSE Express

HDD form factor 2.5"

Technology DDR2 SDRAM - 667.0 MHz

Many thanks!!

HI there,

Insert your Bootable Thumbdrive and turn on your machine.

As it boots go into BIOS, F2 or whichever key you have to use, key along to the Boot tab and click it and you should see your thumbdrive in the list of boot options, use the keys indicated along the bottom of the screen to move your USB thumbdrive to the top of the list. F5/F6 are possibly the keys you need to use for this. Click the Exit tab, Save your changes and your machine will boot to your Thumbdrive.

OR

You may be able to select a key that will take you to a Boot Menu where you select your Thumbdrive to boot from. This key may be the F12 key, as it is on my Toshiba Netbook, check your screen as your machine starts up to make sure. Select you Thumbdrive, click Enter and boot up.If you can do it this way then you do not have to go in to your BIOS to change anything.

Cheers ,HTH,

Hello there!

 BIOS shows:
Priority Option # 1 (USB HardDisk)
Priority Option # 2 (USB CD/DVD Rom)
Priority Option # 3 (USB Floppy)
Priority Option # 4 (Hard Disk)
Priority Option # 5 (Network Device)

Which USB option is it? Thanks!

Al

Guess what?! I can't format my thumb drive because it says:
"The specified device is currently used by other application. Please close before formatting the device."

What am I doing wrong?!

Thank you so much my friend!!
