How to Copy a Hidden Restore Partition

A restore partition on your computer's hard drive allows you to restore the computer to factory settings, but it also takes up space. By default, you cannot view hidden partitions in Windows. You will need to instruct the operating system to show hidden files and folders before you can copy the partition. You can view and copy the hidden restore partition with free software. All you need is enough unallocated space on the destination hard drive to contain the hidden partition.

Instructions

Preliminary Steps

1. Click "Start" and select "Control Panel." Click the Click "Appearance and Personalization," select "Folder Options" and click the "View" tab. Click the radio button next to " Show hidden files, folders, and drives" and click "OK." This will enable you to view the hidden partition under "Computer."

2. Navigate to the website of your computer or hard disk manufacturer. Some of these offer system tools software that will allow you to copy the partition. Instructions vary depending on the manufacturer, so be sure to read any documentation.

3. Download and install third party partition software, if your computer or drive manufacturer doesn't offer system tools. Two such tools are EASEUS Partition Master and MiniTool Partition Wizard.

Easeus Partition Master

1. Download and install EASEUS Partition Master. Click "Start" and select "All Programs" to launch the software.

2. Highlight the partition you wish to copy in the central pane. Click the "Copy" button on the menu bar and the Partition Copy Wizard will start.

3. Select the unallocated space where you want to copy the partition and click "Next." The software will copy the hidden restore partition to the unallocated space. You can copy it to the same drive, or to a different drive.

Partition Wizard

1. Download and install MiniTool Partition Wizard.

2. Click "Start," select "All Programs" and click "MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition" to launch the software.

3. Select the hidden partition you wish to copy, and click the "Copy" icon above to start the Copy Partition Wizard.

4. Click the unallocated space where you would like to copy the partition. Click "Next" and the software will copy your partition to the space you selected.
