Hi there just checked the disk and it is windows me recovery disk
so that will not be any use to you as you have to do a complete reinstallition of the operating system.

you would have to either bye a new copy of windows xp from the shops or online and reinstall the operating system that way OEM copy

or

if you have a copy of ME installation disk to put on to his computer then I could help you set it up and reinstall the operating system

it is time to make a desission as you are running out of luck becuase no operating system recovery disk is avaible it needs a new installation on a blank hard drive

let us know what you want to do  and I will do my best to help you

Kind Regards

Bradley

Hi there,

I would not advise installing a XP Black Edition, especially on a client/friends computer or anybody elses' for that matter, as you will find that it is pirated and

chock full of virus, malware et al. It's a risky business and not worth the hassle you could get from doing so.

Just google xp black edition pirated to see what I mean.

Have a look here for OEM Version info

http://www.briteccomputers.co.uk/forum/chit-chat/oem-os-versions/msg1985/#msg1985

Cheers, HTH,

Hi cheryl
I agree with ticker dont go there it is not worth it and you can be procicuted for holding such a copy get rid of it and if you are cought on the internet and they track your ip address then the persion using it will also be procicuted which is not woth having since it is your nabough

The best thing your nabough can do is bye a new copy and install it as a fresh copy oem is the best what is means it is a genune copy of windows and it can only be used once on that coputer once registerd to that user that disk can only be used on that computer an open lisnece copy means you can use the cd more than once.

dont take the risk of getting cought it is not woth the worry speak to your nabough and tell them that they have no other choice now that the format has happend to bye a new copy of windows in the shops or online and that you will install it for them if they can not do it themselves and I will guide you though how to do this any other support I can offer I will

Hope I have made this clear and remember it is your naboughs computer so not you problem as such

your ME disk sounds like the disk that formats and reinstalls the operating system so no good to a user that dose not have ME already it is only for you

if you would like any futher support just let me know

Kind Regards

Hi There Cheryl,

I have been following your thread here and would have made some posts on your problems, but since Bradley had picked up the baton for you I did not want to interfere, because sometimes that can just make things more confusing.

If you want some more info on XP Black Copy go here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Genuine_Advantageand have a read (the para on China will make you aware of why it is called XP Black).

Before you rush out to buy a Genuine copy of Windows 7,don't bother with Vista or XP (convince neighbour!!) can you not possibly borrow an XP OS CD from a friend maybe? If so you can use this to install the XP OS providing that you have the C.O.A.(Certificate Of Authority), this comes as a series of letters and digits and you will find it on a label that is stuck on the side of your neighbours' PC in this form:XXXXX-XXXXX-~XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX.  Install XP from your borrowed CD and enter this number when requested, and you will be good to go. If you cannot borrow one then its a new OS.

If you want any info on Win ME just shout out. Since you seem to have a duff Boot Floppy/CD, you can make a new one from within Win ME.

Cheers HTH,
