Uninstall Internet Explorer 8 in Windows 7

Internet Explorer 8 has its fair share of annoyances. If you have absolutely had all you can take of its constant lockups, there is a way to uninstall it without having to revert to an older version.

Note: There are many places on Microsoft.com where Internet Explorer is needed for updates or downloads.

Open Control Panel by clicking on the start menu and selecting it.

From the list that appears, click Programs and Features.

In the menu that appears, look to the left. You should see a link that says Turn Windows Features on or off click it.

From the list that appears, uncheck Internet Explorer 8 (or 7, if you never upgraded).

A warning will appear telling informing you that if you turn off Internet Explorer, it may affect other programs. Click Yes.

Click OK. Your computer will restart (possibly twice), and Internet Explorer will be history. You can always reinstall it if you need it later by going back to the features menu and checking the box next to IE8 (so, it isn’t really “uninstalled” in the traditional sense, but it is definitely out of our way).

Lets hope Microsoft may fix some of the problems with IE8 in the near future. In the meantime, third-party browsers will continue to gain popularity.
