i know it is not really a network problem but it is network related..I am more a desktop man than laptop hence this question,my son as acquired a new lappy and he is asking if there is a way to make it automatically connect to the home network when he turns it on at the moment he has to press function/f11 and he tends to forget.not been lappy savvy i dont know i have looked around  the adapter settings but nothing seems to give that option ?? I was thinking of adding it to  load on start up but i dont know how the function key integrates if you know what i mean

Hi there ozzie_uk,

The Fn + F key that you are having to press to get your wireless to connect, only acts as a on/off switch for enabling/disabling your wireless adapter.
So you are having to enable you adapter to get wirelessly connected and this should not be neccessary.

Here are a couple of things for you to try.

Firstly, are you using 3rd party software to manage your wireless connection? If so, a couple of questions:
1. Is it set to start on boot up?
2. Is it set to connect automatically?
if the the answer to either/both is in the negative then correcting either/both to the positive could be the answer you are seeking.

Second, if you are not using 3rd party software, but are allowing Windows to manage your wireless connection, do you have a wireless icon on your taskbar, bottom RHS?
If so, clicking on this icon will show you all available wireless networks in your vicinity. Clicking on your SSID (your network name)will allow you to disconnect (if already connected). Follow this procedure to connect again, enter your security passphrase when asked, and also make sure that the CONNECT AUTOMATICALLY check box is checked.

Also, it is ESSENTIAL that this service, WLANSVC is in automatic mode and is running. To to check this out, follow these steps:

CLICK THESE IN THIS ORDER: START>CONTROL PANEL>SYSTEM AND SECURITY>ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS>COMPUTER MANAGEMENT>SERVICE AND APPLICATIONS>SERVICES

......then scroll down to WLAN AutoConfig and check that the service has started and in Automatic mode.

Hopefully, either of the above should resolve your problem. However, whatever the outcome, successful or not, please post back with your results.

HTH,

i dont quite know what you mean by this i am only using the software that was installed by the lappy drivers from new..updated of coarse.

as to the other things WLANSVC and the icon   (it only appears after i turn adaptor on,,,unless i wired)

i checked them and as you see they appear to be ok...and i still gotta use function to turn it on

i'm begining to wonder if it may be sommat else in my device manager in c/panel it shows two network adaptors 1 for wired "jcmircon" and 1 "realtek wireless" the mircon one shows in my bios but the realtek dont could this be related and the mircon 1 is set as default??
