Intermittent Disconnection Problems - RobCharles1981 - 05-30-2017

Hi Brian and the forums,

I hope you can help me with this strange issue!

My ISP is BT and I connect via Hub 5 Router and Wired.

And every so often I get "random" disconnections, So say for example I'm browsing the web, then it has trouble trying connecting to the web and it stays like that, until I have to restart my Computer!

There's nothing obvious in Event Viewer, and speaking to BT Via Live Chat is non existant  They just run a test on my exchange and comes back fine!

I'm not that impressed with my speed either I'm paying for 25meg Download and I'm getting 15meg according to this speed test as well.

Any ideas on what this could be please?

Thanks
Rob

  • Unplug your router/modem and all cables from the wall.
  • Wait 60 seconds.
  • Plug your router/modem back in and turn on. (wait until lights go solid or router is fully booted)
  • Switch one computer on (doesn't matter which).

Disconnect any other computer/ devices on network

Hi Rob,

BT or any broadband company like talk talk etc etc that uses the BT telephone line will be crap. It all depends on where you live in the country and how far from the exchange you are and what the state of the wiring in your home example long cables and extension boxes and so on. Another thing to take into consideration is on how many people in your area use BT or there Line and is it at peak times. They maybe running a maximum capacity at certain times of the day. Interference on the line can cause issues as well.

Have you tried another DNS like Google DNS

Here are some DNS servers:

Random disconnections are usually associated with the Master plug wiring, I would call BT out to check a fault in the wiring loom.

RE: Intimient Disconnection Problems - RobCharles1981 - 06-12-2017

Hi there,

BT Had came out well 3 Of them!, One Booked and came last Wednesday and other guy came unknown to me!, Anway they both checked the line and nothing appeared to be any issues, the chap that officialy came on Wednesday Suggested that I reconfigure the line aka no Extensions ect (I said id think on it) But when he left for some or known reason I had no Internet connection!

So it took me 3 "Support People" to book an eingeer visit which came on Friday, Did the usual checks, and checked the exchange, and found there were a couple of "errors" on the line which he sorted. And he also added a new ADSL Line running from my Hub to the Socket that goes out of my house and speeds have greatly improved:

But every now and then I still get that issue where my Connection Is on and I get cut off from browsing and it's slow coming back on.....

I have to actually restart my Computer, i.e Start and then Restart, and it takes ages to do so!

Any ideas why this is?

RE: Intimient Disconnection Problems - Britec - 06-13-2017

these issues can be a nightmare to detect on BT I think you did the right thing running a line without any breaks was the way to go.

RE: Intimient Disconnection Problems - RobCharles1981 - 06-13-2017

That's very True Brian,

I'm still experiecning this issue with this Random Disconnections or "Hanging" when I'm browsing, I have to restart my computer which is a pain.

Any ideas on what this?
Theres nothing obvious in event viewer either! :-S

Are you on WiFi when this happens? What sort of times does it happen? Have you tried another DNS server?

Hi Brian,

No I'm not I connect Wired.
It happens a couple of times a day?

I asked in another forum and one said to do a Disk Check, but I know it's not that, I have Samsung Magician and they say my drives are fine.

What do you mean on a "Dns Server?"
