BT warning email about copyright torrent download - Ajaay27 - 08-08-2017

Hi everyone, I recently got an email from BT called "Get It Right From A Genuine Site campaign". In the email, it stated that there was a copyright torrent had been downloaded. It even gave the correct time and the name of the movie that was download from the torrent! I have already done a little research about it and apparently using a VPN would fix the problem, but I always use a VPN anyway because I need it to access pirate bay from my location but I still got an email? I maybe accidentally turned it off and let it seed for a while and maybe that's how I got it but in terms of downloading the torrent, the VPN was switched on. I used a free version of Zenmate extension for google chrome but I'm thinking about a monthly subscription using NordVPN instead. Apparently only the seeding part of the torrent is the problem because you're sharing the data which is the copyright part?

So I was just wondering if anyone else had some more information on this and a solution to stop getting those emails/ letters? There apparently hasn't been anyone brought to court or anything yet because of it but I certainly don't want to be the first.

Here's a link to the BT Get It Right From A Genuine Site campaign website:

Depends on the trackers in the torrent even a VPN wouldn't do anything against that.

And talk of illegal sites such as PirateBay is not warranted here.

If BT is your ISP then VPN or not they can track every move you make if given permission to by authorities.

BT or any other ISP would not be able to trace your activity if you are using a VPN and change your DNS. Best VPNs to use IPVanish PureVPN NordVPN ExpressVPN to name a thew. Don't use Free Proxy or Free VPN

Thank you Britec, I will start paying for NordVPN. Any ideas on how to know which numbers to change your DNS too? I've done it before but that was after being told which numbers to type in so I don't know how to source numbers that would work. Also, I do apologise for using a banned word.

Nord use their own DNS

DNS servers

NordVPN native applications automatically use our NordVPN DNS servers when connected to NordVPN. This is done to prevent DNS leaks when connected, ensuring that your DNS requests are safe.

NordVPN DNS server addresses are: 162.242.211.137 and 78.46.223.24

Oh cool so I'd only have to turn it on and it takes care of the rest? that is great.

I would recommend private internet access. it's a No-Logging policy

the problem with Zenmate extension its free don't really give Privately protection

and will only work in the web Browser

NordVPN will change you DNS automatically when you turn it on and then resets to what you originally had it set to when it is turned off.

thanks, everyone, seems like NordVPN is the easiest and best solution.

I would recommend private internet access too. They have multiple encryption option unlike other vpn.
