I have 50 mps download speed from the cable company, how is the best way to get the most speed I can from there, my usual DL speed ranges from about 1 meg to 3 megs, but would like to utilize more speed, how can I get the most for my money, any ideas guys ?

First you going to need to know if the problem is your end or to do with your ISP.

Try changing your DNS server.
Use wired instead of wireless.
Use phone line filters on all sockets.
Try using the shortest cable possible and see if speed improves.
Make sure your plugged into the master socket with the shortest possible cable and see if connection improves.
(Optional) Change router and cable modem for a better one.
Run tracert to see if you getting lost packs or packet loss.

Don't forget that your download speed also depends on the upload speeds from the source of the download.

I have 100 up and down and there isn't very much that can saturate it. Most of you benefit goes to being able to have more traffic on your network from multiple machines. Think youtube and netflix on multiple devices at the same time.

If you really want to saturate it you can try downloading your favorite version of linux through a bit-torrent link. Just remember allot of tools also measure in MB/s instead of Mb/s

megabits 50 = megabytes 6.25

are your speed tests showing 50?

I think what DonaldSayers is saying is to test your network speeds by using BitTorrent. Try downloading a popular, legal file like a version of Linux or something to see how much download speed you get.

Test your network speed with SpeedTest and see what your up and down speeds are benchmarking at. Post your results here and in this thread that was started for fun.

did you try calling them my friend has this problem after doing all the test on his end

the problem was that he needed a bigger cable modem / better Ethernet cable

I have some ARRIS cable modem they provided, but I have to reset it all the time cause it seems like it freezes, when I reset it works fine for about a day or 3, then have to do it again,

Question: If I bought my own Cable Modem, would I be able to connect and use without having the cable co. do it ? Or is that something I would need to ask them about ?
