I was trying to perform my monthly clone of my 600 gig hard drive and discovered that my hard drive has gone from approximately 180 gig used space to 442 gig used space within the month of February. As a result the clone failed due to lack of space.
I checked the size of all folders on the C: Drive, but could not find nothing. Then downloaded and executed the free utility Folder-Size. The report showed what my problem is. SYSTEM VOLUME INFORMATION created seven (7) files during the month of February. Prior to that no file created since 2009, except one for System Restore in February 2013.
I have no idea what this is, or how to get rid of it. If this continues it will shortly blow out my 600 gig hard drive. My current used space in now 442 gig with 139 g free.
I noticed that twice the created files last month corresponded with my weekly Acronis True Image 2015 full incremental backup.
Details on System Volume Information are:
. Owner Unknown
. Attribute: HSA
. The last executions are:
. 2/14 - added 27.0 gig
. 2/13 - added 26.9 gig
. 2/28 - added 11.6 gig
. 2/26 - added 10.0 gig
. 2/27 - added 10.0 gig
. 2/20 - added 8.6 gig
. 2/19 - added 6.9 gig
I obviously need help in identifying what this is and how to get rid of it or correct something. I think I need to modify permissions in order to delete these files - that is as long as they can be deleted without causing any problems. Also how to prevent an on-going growth of these files. Thus - Help, Help
