I am having issues with booting up windows 7
#1
Hi Brian! Sorry for posting my computer issues earlier on YouTube. That's cause I panicked about my computer not booting up. I turned on my computer today and faced a black screen telling me, " windows error recovery " "Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. If windows files have been damaged or configured incorrectly. Start up repair can help diagnose and fix the problem." And clicked startup repair! My question is, will I lose all my personal files while startup repair, and how long will it take?

Info about my PC :

Windows 7 64 bit

500 gb hdd
4 gig ram

Please quick response! Thanks!

I don't believe Startup Repair will damage your personal files, it has never caused any problems with the computers I've used it on including my personal and business machines. Do you do backups? External hard drives are extremely inexpensive these days and there are many excellent free programs. I use AOMEI Backupper Standard free edition. I've experienced numerous failures with using system restore and now rely on 3rd party software. If you have access to another computer, which you apparently do because you posted issue, you can make a bootable disk with AOMEI, boot with it, and do a system/disk image to an external hard drive. One of the convenient features of AOEMI is the ability to mount your backup and access it as you would your c: drive. If you mount the image, it will appear as another drive and you can open it, and search and open files, copy, paste, etc., just as you would on c: drive.

No I don't possess another machine unfortunately! I posted my issue using my cell phone. I usually backup. But this particular time I didn't. My laptop is currently going into loading files, I am assuming it is scanning for damaged files or bad sectors. All I see is black screen right now. ! What I want to know is, how long will it take till the process is done and will I access my desktop once the process is done and will my files still exist!? Thanks anyways for your reply!

If you have Windows 7 disk you can try to perform a system restore.

1. Insert the Windows 7 installation disc.
2. Restart your computer.
3. When prompted, press any key to start Windows 7 from your installation disc.
Note: You may need to configure your computer to start from a CD or USB. You will need to change your computer's BIOS settings to change boot order.
4. Choose your Language settings, and then click Next.
5. Click Repair your computer.
6. Select the operating system you want to repair, and then click Next.
7. On the System Recovery Options menu, click System restore and select recommended data or choose a date when the computer was working fine.
