Removing possible malware from browser.
#1
I was looking through the config page of firefox on an unrelated matter and I noticed quite a few similar lines to this;

extensions.wrc.SearchRules.virginmedia.com.style
extensions.wrc.SearchRules.virginmedia.com.url

I'm assuming they are some kind of malware or PUP's that have attached themselves over the years. How do I get rid of them?

I just tried Adwcleaner but unfortunately I'm having some problems getting that program to open.

In the config screen it says they are userset. Is it possible just to delete these lines?

For the record I've nothing to do with virginmedia . It's just the first one I noticed when I typed in media in the search box. There is quite a lot of them listed in the config file. It's not slowing down my browser. But if I can get rid of them then I'd appreciate it.

Thanks.

You may be able to remove them if you want it's nothing serious though.

The quickest way would be to reset the browser.

In FF select the Help option and then select Troubleshooting Information.

On the right hand side there should be the option to Reset FireFox.

I might leave them on as I think they are coming from one of the extensions I've got on. So probably not wise to remove them without messing it up.

I'm buying a new comp soon anyways so this isnt worth the hassle.

Have a good Christmas!
