HTPC No 5.1 Detected
#1
Hi,
So i purchased a audio video receiver today in hope that i can get my HTPC to utilize 5.1 as my TV didn't support it on HDMI Pass-through to my old Z5500 speakers connected through optical. however, the pc doesn't detect that it supports 5.1.

if any one could assist me with this, that would be good.

Receiver: Sherwood RD-6506
HTPC: Asus K53SV Laptop
OS: Windows 10 Pro

Do you have a SPDIF port? remember if you are playing ripped movies, they may not have been ripped in 5.1

No spdif ports are available on my laptop. The movies I watch all have been ripped with 6 channels and I also watch blue ray through the laptop also. The options to run 5.1 are not listed in the Windows playback options.

You can use Kodi  to select 5.1 audio.

Hi,
sorry about the late reply, didn't get notified.
I tried setting up 5.1 in kodi, however it still didn't send the 5.1. I have ended up taking back my new receiver as it didn't work with my setup as disappointing as it is.

Even tested it in Linux where is gave me the option to select 5.1 output but when testing and configuring files it still didn't work.

Thanks for the help mate.
