AMD FX-9590 or Intel i7-4770K
#1
Just want to bring this article to peoples attention. Maybe you looking to but a new CPU and shy away from AMD because all the bad feedback it gets from everyone. But let me tell you, if your a gamer? you won't see much difference between AMD and Intel.

The FX-9590 is £173.99 that is a lot of chip for the money. I don't think its a million miles away from Intel 4770K as people think. It all comes down to Budget and What you want to do with it.

Here is some bench marks for the following CPU's

FX-9590

FX-9370

Core i7-4770K

Core i5-4670K

Full Article from start or Just the Bench Marks  (This is one of the most complete bench marks I have seen)

The thing to take into consideration is:
  • Budget
  • What you going to be doing on the computer ie: video editing, photo editing, illustrations, gaming etc etc
So have you got some good bench mark articles to share, please post the links or maybe you have got something to add to the post, please let use know.
(please keep nasty opinions to yourself, good clean constructive criticism is fine.)

I personally prefer AMD and have used this chip in a recent computer build for a customer. If a customer has no preference I always use AMD.

I use to always buy AMD processors back in the day. I had the old AMD K6-2, Durons and Athlons before making the switch over to Intel. With Intel you are always going to be getting great performance over AMD but it does come at a cost.

I think this statement is quite true.
AMD have many cores, which are weaker.
Intel have less cores, which are stronger.

All of my systems that I sell to my customers are all Intel, based on 1155 and 1150.

I like the savings in price when going with AMD. In this case the FX-9590 is about a $80 savings compared to the i7-4770K. Although the AMD is a bit slower and runs WAY hotter than the 4770K. I mean 220W for the 9590 vs 84W for the 4770K. VERY inefficient the 9590 is! Better have a great cooling solution.

The AM3+ architecture is a bit outdated but will due depending on your needs.

The benchmarks shown are at stock and the 4770 easily overclocks to 4.6GHz to 4.7GHz which would separate those benchmarks even more. I am quite confident you will not be able to overclock that 9590 much at all from where it is due to the TDP.

All in all we are talking a $80 savings and probably a bit of savings on a AM3+ motherboard. Still not convinced savings vs performance vs architecture vs efficiency. Depends on your budget and what you are building the system for.

I personally hope AMD can get up to a newer architecture and bring out a chip that is comparable to Intel at a lower price but I am probably dreaming.
