The BIOS firmware resides inside a chip on the motherboard. It will stay installed as long as the bios chip is in place, and will have no effect if anything happens to any of the hard drives
you may have to install the drivers after you reinstall the operating system because unlike the bios, the drivers reside in the hard drive
as far as your problem is concerned, like you pointed out, it could very well be because AVAST is not compatible with Kaspersky and yet you tried to make them work together
It is just one of the many reasons I always recommended people to keep just one real-time antivirus software at a time
