Its very hard to make Windows a lot faster with registry tweaks.
  • Have you done your virtual memory settings?
  • Use Windows classic theme? (it looks basic, but it works and don't take as much resources)
  • Buy a SSD (This is the way to go)
There are loads more tweaks you can do, which is very hard to list here, but using a SSD will be the way to go for a super fast machine.

I would also recommend adding more memory if it is possible to do so. Windows 10 IMO needs at least 6GB ram. Smile

Yeah ive went the ssd route with a previous pc i just cant afford it again, but why i ask is because there was a tech back in the day that disabled some services added something to envioronment variables, typed in a code in command prompt and did a couple tweaks to the registry and custom virtual memory settings to an older xp system with 2 cores tops, 768 ram and an ide ribbond hf and by doing so the performance was like heavens trumpet the response times how quick it was to install and copy big files. But when i asked what he did he wouldn't tell me, so off and on through the years ive been searching and doing research on registry keys, command prompt services etc

The tech did say it was a tweak that is for servers, and after it was applied i was smiling ear to ear

#5
Do any of the tweaks your talking about speed up write and read times? Im not cocerned about benchmarking im more concerned about the noticeable part

#6
I think windows XP of itself was fast so probably what the tech did is to disable some some services which make windows xp
faster

windows 7 & 10 is build difference Under hood

#7
Yeah he did tweak some services but there was turning off system restore, virtual memory making sure write cache was checked , threre was something with command prompt, environment variables something that he added and registry tweaks which i can think one reg tweak was content index startup delay 40000 in decimal value but there was other ones in reg that he did also and i could swear he said it was a reg tweak for servers that he did im like pulling my hair out over it lol and when i asked he wouldn't tell me because he knows how delicate the registry is and so fourth lol

smirk24 How long ago did you purchase that ssd? Because you can get one now for about 60.00 bucks,120GB Corsair.

If i had the $ id buy a new pc with 6gbps support so id get the full benefit of an ssd drive but i wont be able to afford any stuff like that for a while which is why im trying to figure out tweaks and ways to optimize the stuff i have now but thank you Smile

I have loads of registry tweaks and batch files to tweak and disable stuff, but the reason why I don't use them on peoples or customers computers is, tweaking generally means disabling stuff and I can guarantee the machine will be faster, but at what cost? crappy looking theme, all the features and services disabled, startup and shutdown and menu will be faster. But I guarantee someone will complain the can do this and they can't do that and they don't like the look of it.

So here is a thing to consider before tweaking
  • Do you care what the operating system looks like?
  • Do you understand tweaking means disabling stuff on the computer?
  • Do you understand the computer will be running bare minimum services and startup programs?
  • Do you know Windows 7 is already optimized and by tweaking you could make system unstable?
  • Do you understand is mostly hardware related?
  • Have you tried a fresh install?
  • Have you tried doing system maintenance on the computer?
  • Have you removed all dust from case?
  • What are you doing on the computer that makes it feel slow?
  • What are your system specs? are you trying to make a mini run like a ferrari, because it just wont happen.
Hope this helps.
