Windows Operating System Dilemma
#1
Britec, was XP as bad at the start as win 7 or 10 is now?
I remember having to go through a horrendous update to go to XP SP1. Horrendous then ,but not these days.
XP  turned out not bad after a lot of fixes.
Win 7 has a lot of problems that Microsoft knows about  but will do nothing about- essentially abandoned.
Win 10 will  repeat history ?

People get attached to things and XP was around a long time, Malware could easy infiltrate XP operating system today and made it unsafe to use. Security gets better with every operating system and Windows 10 is by far the securest Windows operating system. Its very good a protecting against malware, more so than its predecessors. I know there is a lot of alarm about built in spyware in Windows 10, but we will have to move to Windows 10 sooner or later or use Linux or Mac.

I would say if you are running Windows 8/8.1 you may as well upgrade to Windows 10. Windows 7 is different operating system than Windows 8/8.1 and only has temerity which is easy to disable. Windows 8/8.1 is like Windows 10 with all the same spyware as 10.

Windows 7 has life cycle until January 2020    so if the spyware built into Windows 10 worry's you, use Windows 7. But on the down side, Windows 7 will be more easy to infect than Windows 10 and who knows how bad that will be in 3 or so more years.

Its going to come down to what you want to use and how happy you are with that OS. I myself have brought Windows 10 and kept Windows 7.

Hope this helps.

I am with Brian on this, although I think that the whole privacy aspect with Windows 10 has been blown out of proportion

Microsoft has after all published their privacy statement at https://privacy.microsoft.com/en-us/privacystatement

I therefore won't classify their built in apps as spyware, but that said, they could be more transparent

Perhaps the page was down then. It's working now though... https://choice.microsoft.com/en-us/opt-out
