What infection tools have the ability to disturb the video's ability to run properly?
#1
Hello,
Recently I had an issue with Windows news apps from playing video. I learned that by simply creating a new profile that this corrected the issue.

I had a similar experience in the past once using anti infection tools brought my profile back to the video error.
Currently my system is working fine. I do make frequent scans using anti-infection tools. Are there known scan tools that have the ability to corrupt the OS? I'm now in a bit of a bind such that I don't really want to scan for infections due to this situation. I'm not asking that you provide info and each and every anti scan tool. I'm only wanting to know when using the scan tools what I should be careful to avoid.

Hi PhilipMoore1953,

From what I know, scan tools are supposed to scan for viruses and malware, not corrupt the OS. Most tools fix corruption with the OS, when a system is infected, no corrupt it. For software to be careful of, OTL By Oldtimer is a very powerful software but you could damage system if you don't what you are doing. Technically, scan tools won't corrupt your OS, but knowing how to use them properly is important because if you don't how to use them, you could damage/corrupt it. If you unsure how to use it, it is best to ask a professional.

However for your case, making a new user profile in Windows 10 is common now because when I installed Windows 10 (Clean install) it got corrupted and I had to make new one. So I wouldn't worry about scan tools corrupting the OS, just remember if you don't know how to use the program/features of the program, do not touch it becuase there is a chance you could corrupt teh OS it.

If you are unsure if your OS is corrupt, you can run the sfc /scannow command in CMD to find and repair corrupt system files.

Hope this helps

Hello Rec,
Thanks for your reply. From your reply you've made it seem very simple for me to go to the scan programs in which I have on a 'short list' and do what I can to better understand them. I've used OTL without anything jumping out at me. The one that I believe I need to learn more about is Ad-aware (lava-soft) Rogue killer has always seemed a bit cumbersome to use as well. I'm going to take your advice and get into the tutorials of all these scan tools and see if that will help with the corruption. Never been one to "leave it to the professionals" I guess my attitude is if I crash and burn this will give me more info once I learn the reason for the crash. Thanks for you excellent insight.

I think what is happening is that OTL is removing stuff from your system that maybe cause corruption
if you want to learn OTL its best to use a virtual machine

Very True Compton, OTL has that effect. Philip if you want to learn new software, create a virtual machine and if there is a problem with the OS on your virtual machine, it won't effect your main Operating System

Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and OTL are very powerful software that could mess up the operating system if not used correctly

Yes indeed, that is why I told him he shouldn't use them unless he knows what he is doing otherwise he could cause a lot of damage

I'm putting the report from
Rogue Killer to show what has concerned me in the past. It's clear the tool is indicating a problem do you agree?

I am not seeing anything that would concern me that WindowsApps\2BDFC20A.CBSNews_1.3.5.0_x64__bd059sf7kn2rm\AppxBlockMap.xml -> Found is probably the windows10 news app
