videos popping up on webpage
#1
Thumbs Down
Windows 10 Anniversary Edition  Internet Explorer 11  HP Pavilion Laptop

There's an extremely annoying new feature I'd like to get rid of.  When trying to read a webpage that contains a video, as you scroll down trying to read the article, the video comes out of its fixed position and tracks/scrolls down the page sometimes covering the text you're trying to read.  If you click the close 'X' you're taken back to the top of the article.  As you re-begin reading, the video pop-out syndrome begins anew.  These are not pop-up ads, they are news reports with corresponding text articles.  Couple this with autoplay, and it's a total nightmare.

Is there a way to STOP these videos from chasing you down the screen as you're trying to read?  It happens on most Fox News articles.  I don't even want to read anymore !!!  Very frustrating.

I don't know what element of my system is the culprit.  Windows 10 per se?  Anniversary Edition?  I'd be grateful if you know of a fix.  Microsoft told me it can't be changed.  Can't they at least have created something their customers could control?

Does this happen on every site that has embedded video? Perhaps that particular site is coded to do that with the video. I do come across a site from time to time that does this exact same thing and it is just how the site was built.

Hi keepon ,

This is the video request forum, from the description you have provided, you need help from other members, but if you want Brian (Britec) to make a video about it, that is a different story. Admins please move this thread to the software forum as he is talking about internet explorer.

First of all try a different browser like f23948 suggested google chrome. Test if the issue happens on a different browser. But bear in mind like Timster said, it could be how the website is made, so there is nothing you can do about it.

Also have you tried Microsoft edge?

These have nothing to do with Windows 10, they are advertisements on websites which earn the creator of that site money for putting the time and effort in to create content for his viewers. These are a more extreme approach to advertisement than adsense. Its from Outbrain

Well I don't know which browser you are using but if you happen to use Firefox or a Firefox variant then you can install an addon to quickly toggle javascript on/ off. With javascript off/ disabled you won't get that problem on that site.

Here's the add on:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/toggle-js/

I've also dicussed this issue on another forum but don't wish to post a link to that unless Britec/ admin says it is okay to do so.

Other options include using hosts file to block elements of the page or else disabling flash for the website.

Again I use browsers where it's easy to enable/ disable flash in a click or two. For Firefox I use "click to play per element" add on.
