Best Practices For PC Repair Tools
#1
Hi,

I have a bunch of questions about getting up to date with my windows repair tools. Let me ask a basic one now please...

So way back when I used XP the tool I used was Ultimate Boot Disk for Windows. Probably still available. It was a great app that you combined with your XP install disk and when done setting it up you had a boot disk with a great many AVs and utilities - saved a lot of PCs with this. And if I needed a tool not on the disk I could boot this CD and get USB support and just have that special tool run off a USB flash drive.

But now (I myself use mostly win7 64bit now) there must be more modern tools that can handle newer hardware, UEFI, and new interfaces better with Win7,8,10. So please allow me to ask some newbie questions.

Now, these days what is the equivalent tool that I can boot a broken or problematic Win7,8 or 10 PC too and effect repairs? Do I need separate tools for 7 vs. 8 vs 10? Do I need separate tools for 32 vs. 64bit? Could you link me to these tool(s)?
I did see that Win10 ISO cited at top of this forum.

Tried to download the Win10 ISO cited at top of this forum (will try again). Where does that ISO fit into the whole thing?  Maybe I have this wrong but I would guess  it has newer drivers that could easily boot a Win7,8,10 PC. So maybe it be a tool that could be used to repair most Windows versions?

Let's say i needed an AV not found on that ISO. Could I boot with it and then just insert a USB flash drive which has the extra portable AV or utility I need? Also I assume we put the ISO not on a DVD but on a USB drive - the documentation seems good...

Thanks so much.

I guess it depends how you go about fixing computers, we all have our own way of repair computers. Software tools, I tend to create my own discs and USB flash drives.
