change motherboard without reinstalling windows
#1
I am building a custom computer, until I get my dream motherboard I'm using an old HP motherboard, the problem is that my hard drive I'm using has the Dell Inspiron BIOS, I need the HP BIOS, and I don't know where to find it nor where to put it on my hard drive so the motherboard can read it.

The BIOS is built into the motherboard not the hard drive. When you transfer the hard drive over to the new motherboard it should read it just fine.

I know that, but when I plug in the hard drive and turn the computer on and on the screen is a blue HP start-up screen saying the necessary drivers aren't on the hard drive, my brother said I'm going to need to find the drivers and get them on my hard drive so that the computer will work properly, however me and him don't know how to do this.

I would try formatting the hard drive on another machine first.

Well I have the option of pressing F1 to continue but when I try that it freezes on the starting windows screen. I can make a video of me turning the computer on and you can see what's happening if that helps.

Whats the model of the motherboard you are using? It may need SATA/RAID drivers.

If you are trying to take a hard drive out of a Dell machine with Windows already installed on it and use it on a HP motherboard you may have more issues than just drivers. I have seen Windows lose it's activation after swapping the hard drive to a different OEM machine.

If you can still boot to desktop, first make a backup of all your data. Then You will need to Remove and uninstall all your installed drivers. Example "Chipset Driver, Video Cards, Sound Cards, IDE & ATAPI Serial controllers". You will need to enable "Show Hidden Devices" in device manager and remove them drivers also.

Download new motherboard drivers and graphics drivers and put them on USB drive.

A big issue you might come across is all your "Activated Applicationslike Windows, Adobe products and any other type of software that you activated may cause you problems, because the software calls home and it thinks its getting pirated or copied illegally.  So you might want to "Uninstall Activated Applications".

Just make sure to remove all drivers, so there can be no driver conflicts and you should be OK. You can always recitative windows once booted up to desktop.

Another thing, make sure you get copy's of your licence keys in case you need to reactivate or just uninstall them and re install them after.

Hope this helps you out. I have changed the title to what your asking.
