Britec Data Recovery Video Question
#1
Hi guys,

So I watched Mr Britec's latest video on Data Recovery and I am just wondering, can these programs recover data after wiping the drive with DBAN?
I assume it can't but it'd be nice if someone could give me a definite answer.

Thanks,
Dan.

The more data that gets written over the more difficult it becomes to recover that data. DBAN does just that. It writes data over the entire drive in such a way that makes it difficult if not impossible to recover any previously written data from the drive.

Yeah like Tim said.

Gutmann Method 35 overwrites of different ways, I am 100% you will not retrieve any data from this drive. That said, you will also put the drive through a lot of read and writes, which puts unnecessary stress on the drive. Its not really meant for large drives like today's drives, it will takes days if not weeks to complete.
You have got to ask yourself, what are you doing which is that secret? I am sure its not nothing to do with national security  Big Grin

There is smaller wipes like DoD 5220.22-M again its over kill and no data would be readable.
  • Pass 1: Writes a zero and verifies the write
  • Pass 2: Writes a one and verifies the write
  • Pass 3: Writes a random character and verifies the write
