sudo smartctl -l selftest /dev/sda
It's actually in the link Brian gave. Edit: you can also use sudo smartctl -a /dev/sdc They will give slightly different outputs.

Try sudo smartctl -a /dev/sda | less
sudo badblocks -v /dev/sda

i got it working Brian, after short drive self test, how do i know if self drive short test passed or failed?
