upgrading cpus
#1
So I have a dell dimension 5150 that has a 775 LGA socket but its a single core with hyper threading capabilities that is a 2.55ghz.

And then I have an hp dx7300 slim tower that also has a 775 LGA socket that has a dual core with a 3.4ghz.

Would I have any issues swapping processors because I like the dell dimension 5150 case better then the dx7300 slim tower?

LGA 775 compatibility varies a fair bit. Early Intel 915 chipsets motherboards only support single core Pentium 4 architecture. The Intel 945 supports Pentium 4 Dual Core architecture. If it's one of newer motherboards it will support all LGA 775 socket CPU. So basically if you talking about the later CPU and trying to put that into an older type motherboard, you will run into trouble with BIOS support and issues with voltage on that motherboard.

So check chipsets on both motherboards.
