used farbar recovery scanner to figure it out
#11
Hardware memory tester is the way to go but they are a lot of money, hot swapping is by far the quested and easiest way to test for bad memory.
I have seen intermittent memory issues when Memtest 86 and Memtest86+  fail to detect bad memory on 1 to 3 passes, you really need to do 8 passes to sure the memory is not bad.
Unless the memory is so bad that Memtest detects it as soon as you run a scan then you could be in for a time-consuming task with memtest.

I find swap out with known good memory and running a full on burning test does the trick any type of burning test will push memory into failure. Also check logs and BSOD files for signs of bad memory. It's better to do that then wait 24 to 48 hours for memtest to run its scans.

Hardware memory testers like these can tell if you have bad memory in seconds

you can also get slot testers that work well

hope this helps.

to sum it up here smirk24 you have many ways in testing memory

its would just depend on the situation I am sure you learn something

on the Britec forum we make learning fun

now back on topic run memtest86 do 1 to 3 pass if no problem is found

just look to see if you are getting any blue screen of dead  or the computer is freezing up

if no the memory is good

#13
Ive only seen memtest86 with a blue screen while doing tests and mines black but looks simular to the blue screen version. is this right?

Im running the tests now. I didnt even notice anything wrong with my ram i just ran farbar recovery scan tool and it said something about bad memory lol so here i am asking you guys and running a ram test lol

My rams good i suppose we can close the thread

I just want to let you know that 3 passes are not enough to test memory properly. You need to run a minimum of 7 to 8 passes to be sure because memtest uses different algorithm each pass to check the memory. This can take many hours to complete. If you want to be sure your memory is good then that is the length of passes you need to run. Like I said real bad memory real sometimes show its self after 3 passes but then is not always the case. Just wanted to clear that up.

If you have 2 sticks of memory and you find a problem remove one stick and run the scan again until you find the bad stick or run the scan with one stick at a time.
It's a long a laborious process.

This will give you an idea of what test do and how they test.

not to take this off topic its all about discussion of memory

Britec i would think as time past as new version of memtest86 are out it would become better at testing memory

it would takes less passes to fully test memory and finding errors I know a few years back people would say you need to do 8 passes

but I think with improvement being done to memtest86 3 to 4 passes should work

or maybe I am a big dummy like Fred Sanford use to say LOL LOL
