Are you serious or was that a joke?

Did they ask anything about the type of malware?

Not a joke at all GS...

They were scammed by one of those Microsoft Technicians that dropped a bunch of stuff in their system (and the guy paid)

* Scammer used an RMM remote client.
* Also left an endpoint security client on the system.

That meant that he could monitor, and have full control of the system....

I can only guess that it was because the computer would not boot at all and they didn't know how to repair an MBR... I ended up getting over 6GB of temp files and 158 malicious files out of it...

Got that right Tim, those aren't techs, they are Pizza Techs.

Now for the Corporate IT Guy, Most of the time, they don't fix issues, they just reimage or grab another PC from the IT supply room....lol

Yeah, reinstalling your OS is not best way to fix every problem, though it does help in some situations.

Now if every customer/client has a issue and you immediately think "Lets do a fresh install of Windows", it is not professional and won't help in the long run.

because
  • Reinstalls of Windows takes time and is not useful, espically, if the customer needs do to some important work and you are still in process of wiping and restoring everything, plus depending on how much data they have and the speed of the system, this could take a couple days to finish, which again, inconviences them.
  • If you keep reinstalling windows for every little thing, you will eventually put wear and tear on the hardware (in this case your SSD/HDD) and it cause it to fail quicker, which is bad for the long run.
  • You will never learn anything! So lets say that for, e.g, you had a problem with a certain feature inside windows and you decided to reinstall windows to rectify it. Then after that, problem solved. But then 5 more PC's had the same issue. Then once again, you wipe and so on... But in the end you discover, all you had to do, was change a registry key. You wasted 5 or more hours reinstalling windows on 5 different systems when it was simply a quick registry change.
The moral of the story and the purpose of the points I made, is that you should not just wipe and reinstall to fix the problem. Do some proper research and find a soultion. Now I know you can go so far when diagonising issues.

But, this will help you become more professional and will save you loads of time when dealing with different systems that have the same issue. You will also have aquired new knowledge which can use to adept to new situations.

Solving technical problems is a learning process. In the end, it will be worth it!

What does happen sometimes, Is the customer tries to fix it themselves with a format or they delete critical system files which ends up rendering the OS unusable.

Also, Sometimes people just want the OS reinstalled from the get go..."Depending on their reason, I don't argue with that request"...lol

People that don't know how to fix computers will wipe the system clean and charge a flat rate when most of the time with a bit of knowledge you can fix most PC problems without wiping the computer. I guess PC techs have become lazy and don't want to learn PC repair and want the quick buck.

At least where I live, it's mostly just about the quick buck.

Some, but there are some who diagnose, so it just depends?
