External hard drive WD My Passport Freezes Computer
#1
Sad
Hello,
Am using an external hard drive WD My Passport of 1TB. When am trying to copy files to the hard disk 10 or 15 % is copied and there it gets stopped that's its. Again I should remove the cable forcibly to make my PC work normal again.
I carried out a disk check on my friends advice and even formatted the disk and tried but the same problem persists.  What might be the problem and how can I fix it!!!

How much are you trying to copy?

Have you tried to copy the same amount of files from a different computer to make sure the eDrive isn't faulty, some passports can arrive bad.

Is the WD My Passport of 1TB Disconnecting while your transferring files? or Does it just hang and freeze up?

Sounds like there is a problem with the WD drive or the controller it is attached to.

You could try FreeFileSync https://www.freefilesync.org/index.php or maybe Teracopy https://codesector.com/teracopy if they are large files this can cause hangs on WD's

Here is some things to try and consider, in no particular order.

1. Try cleaning out old USB drivers with tools like GhostBuster or  USBOblivion  or USBDeview from Nirsoft (use at own risk)
2. Not enough power for USB 3.0 device
3. USB 3.0 drive is corrupt, try using USB 2.0 to see if you get data transferred.
4. Try USB port on back of computer if using a desktop, instead of front USB port.
5. Reformat the hard drive.
6. Check Western Digital's Knowledge Base to see if there is a answer.
7. Check drive with Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for Windows
8. Could be a faulty bit of hardware.

there are just some of the things you can try, hope this helps you out.
