Confused Hi guys, look I know this is going to sound stupid to you, but
I have just bought a monitor from pc world, I want to use it with my laptop,
my laptop has a HDMi port and I have the correct cable to connect them together,.
what i want to know is are they plug & play.. can I connect the monitor while the laptop is running, or must I shutdown first. I know this sounds basic guys, but I woukd like to know and if possiable the reason for the answer..thanks... Blush

You can connect them while they are running however, you really shouldn't as HDMI carries an electrical current and esd is always possible even though you should be well grounded by the cable.

HDMI has a hot swap feature but it is different to the likes of Sata and USB.

It doesn't sound stupid at all. Plugging the display cable to an external monitor directly while the laptop is on, wouldn't cause any issues if you ask me

yes you can conect Hdmi to the monitor when the laptop is no  need to worry Smile
