Awesome Windows System Tweaks
#1
These tweaks work awesome

Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Dfrg\BootOptimizeFunction]
"Enable"="Y"

Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\OptimalLayout]
"EnableAutoLayout"=dword:00000001

Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem]
"NtfsMemoryUsage"=dword:00000002

Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\PriorityControl]
"Win32PrioritySeparation"=dword:0000001a

Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\PrefetchParameters]
"EnableSuperfetch"=dword:00000001
"EnablePrefetcher"=dword:00000001

If you break them up correctly, run this cmd in admin command prompt without quotes "rundll32.exe advapi32.dll,ProcessIdleTasks " restart the computer and then defragment you get these results

.txt   CDM_20170806142602.txt (Size: 1.94 KB / Downloads: 659)

on this kinda of system

.txt   Specs.txt (Size: 825.28 KB / Downloads: 918)

Id reccomend only doing these tweaks on a mechanical drive though

i havent tried on 8.1 yet but heres the default settings if something goes wrong

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Dfrg\BootOptimizeFunction]
"Enable"="N"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\OptimalLayout]
"EnableAutoLayout"=dword:00000000

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem]
"NtfsMemoryUsage"=dword:00000000

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\PriorityControl]
"Win32PrioritySeparation"=dword:00000002

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\PrefetchParameters]
"EnableSuperfetch"=dword:00000003
"EnablePrefetcher"=dword:00000003

theres 3 steps labeled in the picture above. after applying a step to your registry restart your computer.

once you have applied all 3 steps open up command prompt as admin and put in the following command without quotes
"rundll32.exe advapi32.dll,ProcessIdleTasks " then press enter. after you press enter wait 10 to 20 minutes then restart your pc once that is done defrag your drive and you should be good to go

I'd be interested to see some benchmarking on that. I can understand the boot defrag working in XP, not so sure it makes too much difference in 7 but....would like to see the results.
You shouldn't mess with the prefetch stuff though as it's set by default for the best performance, you may find those settings will degrade your read / write over time.

Need benchmarks before and after!

Are you aware of what all those "tweaks" are supposed to be doing?

But where's the benchmarking?

Also that's for XP not 7, still not sure how much affect it will have on Win 7. (not every OS works the same)

I'm surprised by smallvoid as in that first link they state "If using AntiVira software...." AntiVira is rogueware defies belief they would even mention it????

I have to agree with GS. I love tweaks but in modern OS like Windows 10 I would say it would have little if any effect on the operating system. But each to their own.
I might be convinced if I see before and after benchmarks.  Big Grin
