Please i would like to know what is *.tif and *.tiff format use for?

It's a file format for images that uses lossless compression. Basically the raw data collected from a scene by the camera's image sensor, needs to be encoded before it could be saved digitally
TIF is one of the various other file formats used to compress or encode the raw data without any loss of qualitative information.
