Pricing a computer build job
#1
Hi All,

I was wondering what percentage do you add when you resell hardware/software?

Thanks in advance, Smile

I tally up what everything will cost parts wise including tax, shipping, credit card fees, etc. Once I get that figure I tack on $150. That is for a mid to high end gaming rig. The amount I tack on goes up if they want water cooling, extra video cards personalized sleeved cables etc. I give the customer one price that includes everything. I break nothing down.

Pricing computer builds is tricky because offices computers are super quick example.

  1. Office computer build: Motherboard, CPU, RAM, PSU, CD/ROM, Hard Drive. (Most don't need a graphics card and I don't like to do too much cable management when supporting these machines. Can build these in no time at all.
  2. Budget Build: This is nearly the same as Office build with maybe a graphics card. ( Hard to beat shops on these nowadays, the only selling point is that I would use branded parts and shops use generic parts and I used to give the personal service touch.
  3. Med to High range builds: This would depend on added extras being added.
  4. High-End Water Cooled. You going to a premium for this service because of the time and effort involved ie, design, tubing, pump, radiators, sleeving etc
I never like building computers for peanuts when running a business because you have to support them and warranty them. Plus you getting a professional making it for you which is building the machine to your specifications.

I would charge more for parts that you get even if the customer says I can get that cheaper on Amazon...why? because he's ordering it from you and you're running a business, not a charity. He's not just paying for the parts he's paying you for your knowledge.

That's why you don't buy hi-end computers from BestBuy or PC World because they are junk.

Custom Build PC means just that...customarily built to your needs. Choose a price that you think your time and knowledge is worth. I can say you would not get a Hi-End machine built from me for $150 but that's just me.

Hope this helps.

well its pretty simple resell the hardware-software so you can make a profit

but the hard part of selling the hardware is getting someone to purchase it

let's say you buy an SSD to resell with a one-year warranty and within that one year no one purchase than that one warranty is done

if you sell it to someone and it went bad the replacement cost would come out your pocket losing money

at the of end ask yourself this question reselling hardware worst it?

if you have market were you can sell hardware fast then yes you could for it
