flash player not working
#1
I am asking for help
my system is windows 7 home premium with service pack 1
I have the current adobe flash player installed and the latest stand alone (aka projector )
but when I try to open any swf files (games) that I have downloaded they will not run ,when I double click on any one of them I get a window that only has the options of internet explorer or my photo editing program (irfanview) neither of which will run them until just two days ago 12/08/2017 I did not have this problem I could open my folder and the files looked like the adobe flash icon with the name of the game but now they look like a plain text file
I have already un-installed flash player and re-installed it to no avail ,I have ran antivirus anti spy ware and anti malware with no luck I even tried using older version of flash player still nothing
Although when I go to any website that has flash animation I can see and hear it fine but since some of my games have a save I don`t want to go to the website to play a game
have I missed something
Thank you in advance

I would like you to verify the extensions of those files, if they really are "swf" or if they were changed maliciously

these swf files (games ) have been on my computer for over a month with no ill effect they are not executable files
and when I right click the only options I get are internet explorer and irfanview I should get more options than that (found that out first time I downloaded and tried to play one )
normally when I right click and choose properties I find the type of file and what it opens with in this case it will say

Type of file: SWF File (swf)
Opens with: Adobe Flash Player

but now it says Opens with: Unknown Application and if I open my stand alone player and try to navigate the file it does not run it
I have not had this problem till recently
I have attached a png screen shot of one that doesn`t have a name and as this is a community forum I cannot screen shot any more as they are named I don`t want to get in trouble for content
Thank you for your comment

Follow the steps as in the screenshot below; with respect to removing the file type association for swf, refer to https://www.winhelponline.com/blog/unassociate-file-types-windows-7-vista/

I have Malwarebites and have already ran it (I have had it for years) I cannot include a scan log report as it does not generate one for a scan that finds nothing
Thank you for your help

Try right clicking on the game file and when a drop down menu opens up select open with once you have clicked open with, a box will appear, in that box click on the hard drive which windows is installed (usually c) after doing that double click the program files folders to find the flash player.exe file (should be located in one of the program files folders inside adobe)
