Gigabyte board SSD speed better since BIOS update
#1
Just posting this for INFO on the Z170X-UD5 (version 1) board. I updated my BIOS as soon as I found out about the Meltdown-Spectre Vulnerablility about 2 to 3 weeks ago. The new BIOS version was 23F on the Gigabyte site. I noticed a lot of degradation in speed of some of my SSD's. (especially the Sandisk) Speeds of 143 write and 267 read were what I was experiencing. Watched the new Britec video this morning about updating BIOS, so I went over to Gigabyte.com to check to make sure I had the latest. A new update of 23G was available. Text said "update CPU microcode"  The previous update 23F text said "update to fix vulnerability" . After installing the new BIOS, I now am getting 380 write, and 410 read on the Sandisk SSD. No newer firmware update, or Windows 10 update is forthcoming. Guess I am up to date.

I am sorta glad I chose to get a Gigabyte board. Intel seems to have gotten their updates pretty quickly and the second one was definitely better than the first, on the BIOS update. The firmware update hasn't changed thus far.
