Win 10 File Explorer Cannot connect to iPhone

I hesitate to think that it is the iPhone given that I can plug it into two other Win 10 Pro computers and the iPhone picture files are fully accessible.

Here are the Hardware Ids for MTP USB Device which has the warnings.

USB\VID_05AC&PID_12A8&REV_0801&MI_00
USB\VID_05AC&PID_12A8&MI_00

2. https://sdi-tool.org/download/
3. run snippy driver
4. select download indexes  only for this PC
   
   

then wait and see if it will find MTP driver

How to fix iPhone MTP USB Device Driver USB Device for windows 10.

These directions will uninstall possibly corrupted MTP USB Device Driver and in turn
will reinstall the necessary driver provided through Windows.

• Open Device Manager
• Click on Portable Devices
• Click on apple iPhone
• Rt Click to update driver
  

Click on update driver

In Dialogue box click "Browse my computer for driver software"


Click on Browse
In your local C: drive find "Windows"

From "windows' directory find "INF" Click "Ok"

Click where it reads "Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer"

Click on the model name "MTP USB Device" Then click "next"

This then will re-install directly from Windows 10 files to the necessary driver
for your iPhone to transfer photos to windows 10..

Hi Compton:

I downloaded Snappy and ran it.  
It stated that MTP USB Device - Device requires a driver but it wasn't found in DriverPacks.

   

I then downloaded indexes and looked at the details for the MTP USB Device. (see attachment).

   

I am reluctant to download the driver because it is "Not Signed" and the version number is 6.1....whereas the one installed is version 10.0....

Since the driver is not from Microsoft I am concerned about installing it.  I am very cautious about installing files like drivers from third party sources.

So I have held off installing it for now.  I would appreciate your input on the information provided in the attachment.

I tried another approach.  From my Win 10 Pro laptop I copied the four files in the INF directory
ts-wpdmtp.ing
wpdmtp.PNF
wpdmtp.inf
wpdmtphw.inf

and put them in a folder on my desktop of my PC.
I then followed your instructions about installing from Device Manager.  I pointed to the directory with the 4 files in it.  It found the MTP USB Device but generated an error code when it installed as shown in the second attachment.

   

I agree that Snappy found some error with the MTP Device
How safe it this recommended unsigned driver?

I tried googling the error 19 and I am not sure what next steps to take.

I would appreciate your thoughts on this matter.

I have use Snappy to install drivers before no problem

what I would do is to create a restore point before installing the UN Sign driver

that way you have a safety net

I have tried everything to date (short of the driver from Snappy) and I have had no success in resolving my problem.

Even though I wanted to avoid it, I decided to go the Restoral route and dial the computer back to an earlier saved version. It will mean that there are a few programs that I have to reinstall or update.

The good news is that after the restoral I can again access my iPhone via the USB cable!

As I reinstall or update the changed applications since the older restore point I am testing the phone USB connection to see if one of them was the culprit. So far so good.

I want to take this opportunity to thank the contributors to this forum that assisted me over the past two days. I appreciate your suggestions and ideas that were brought forward. I was impressed with the responsiveness of those that posted in the thread.

In the process I have learned more about driver installation that helps broaden my understanding of PC functionality.

This says a lot for the forum and the support it provides.
