Win10 - Upgrade from Win7 Still Available?
#1
Hello All,

Today I got a phonecall from a friend who is still using Win7 and whose PC just popped up a window talking about the end of support for Win7 in January next year. I'm a Win10 user and know nothing about this, but he's asking me what he can do about this. I should quickly add that I am no techno-savvy expert.

I know that, for security at least, he needs to make the move to Win10.

MY QUESTION: is it still possible to upgrade from 7 to 10?

I am pretty certain that Brian posted a YouTube about this but, having trawled through his list of videos on YouTube, I have not found such a video.

I am aware of the website SCDKey.com (courtesy of Britec, where I upgraded from Win10 Home to Win10 Pro) but cannot find an upgrade product/key that my friend can purchase to make the change he requires.

I would be grateful if anyone can point me in the right direction so that I can get my friend up to date.

Thanks and regards

Sorry, your friend will need to purchase Windows 10.  The free upgrade ended a long time ago. PS: yes it is still possible to upgrade Windows 7 to Windows 10.  That is what the prompt from Microsoft is all about. Note: the computer specs must be compatible with Windows 10. See: https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows/windows-10-specifications?SilentAuth=1&wa=wsignin1.0 (There used to be a Microsoft tool that checked if the programs running on the computer are compatible but I cannot find it!

There has always been Windows 10 available at no cost, to upgrade from previous Windows or to do a Clean Install. You will need a Windows 7, or 8 product Key to activate. https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/software-download/windows10

Sorry but that is incorrect. It will cause problem trying to install Windows 10 on a Windows 7 computer without a Windows 10 key. See Microsoft information at: https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/12435/windows-10-upgrade-faq
