Recover Data from RAW drive
#1
Not sure if this should be in software or hardware forum?

Looking for any help regarding recovering data from the drive that Windows now sees as raw, this happened while resizing partitions using Acronis DISK MANAGER 12
the data I was on an external USB drive, the drive itself these reporting that it is fine. Wondering if anyone has any tips or suggestions on some good software to retrieve the data. a lot of the software to recover the partition does not work because it does not see a filesystem, it was NTFS.
Cheers from Canada

You would need a purchased recovery program such as Easusu: https://www.easeus.com/resource/convert-raw-ntfs.htm

Or

Minitool: https://www.powerdatarecovery.com/

How effective these programs are would depend upon your drive, sometimes a RAW partition can signal the end of its life other times the end of the data but a conversion to NTFS is usually possible.

ok try this write a Linux iso too a DVD or a flash drive boot off the linux distro

when you boot in to the Linux desktop

open the file manager  then plug in your external USB drive you should see your data

plug in flash drive and copy the data

so you will 2 flash drive 1 to boot off the Linux distro and the 2 one to copy over your data from the external USB drive

you can download this Linux disto https://www.linuxliteos.com/download.html

Another vote for TestDisk\PhotoRec - used this twice on corrupt SD cards and worked well both times (and it's free!)

I have ran that, however when you run the recovery it loses all of the filenames and renames them. I am not too concerned with photos as I have them backed up elsewhere. I was more after some programs and a Acronis backup files. I downloaded the evaluation version of on track easy recovery professional and it seemed to find the files and also had the correct names. I have not yet attempted to restore as I thought I would see if any other programs could find it. Currently it is $149 US which in Canadian dollars works out to almost $200.
