Loca glue Corrosion? after Screen Replacement
#1
I watched a video on youtube that britec posted awhile back.

Samsung Galaxy S3 Screen Replacement Repair Using LOCA Glue

and in the video comments by the uploader it says.

"My way is a risk because glue can leak into the back of LCD and Camera and Sensor area if you don't take the correct precautions, it can even seep into volume and home button area if you use to much glue. This can cause corrosion and end up in hardware failure, the phone may function OK for a week or two, but with the glue still wet under LCD and Backlight it can then end in tears."

how exactly does it cause corrosion. I was not aware that LOCA would eat up the plastics or conduct across the board?

I understand how it can get in earpeice and mic holes and cause issues there.
I understand how if it gets into the lcd backlight it can cause issues.
nothing a quick component swap wouldn't fix

But actual electrical issues that would destroy the phone... I cant say  follow that one.
Or issues where the phones frame and housing can be affected to the point that a good cleanup wont fix it.

just a curious mind looking to broaden my knowledge on LOCA. any information anyone can put in on this I would appreciate =)

Hi BoomZooka welcome to the forum.

Loca Glue is a wet substance and will only harden under UV light, so the for the curing process to work, the Loca glue needs to be in direct contact with the UV lamp, so if the Loca glue seeps into places where the UV light has no direct contact with the glue it will NOT cure or harden.

So if your not careful and you use to much Loca glue and you don't clean up the excess or it seeps into places you can't clean, then the glue will not harden because UV lamp can't see the glue.

So by now your assuming that all the Loca glue has been cured properly and if you miss any uncured Loca glue and it is left behind in the phone, it can cause corrosion. Electronics and wet substances don't play well together and well render the phone useless overtime.

The other option you have is to buy Replacement For Samsung Galaxy S3 I9300 LCD Digitizer Touch Screen with Frame

Cost £60

Now this option is not as cheap as Loca glue and the margin for profit is greatly reduced because of the price of the replacement screen.

Hope this answers your question.

Just because something is in a liquid state doesn't mean it can damage electronics.
a good example of this would be in this video that shows a simple veggie cool setup

So I guess my question is what exactly will the loca corrode the phone and how.
also loca is non conductive.

  • Non conductive does not mean it won't cause corrosion, also Loca glue if not removed properly can cause hardware failure.
  • Mineral oil is not Loca glue. They are two different products.
  • If you think its OK to repair a phone and leave lots of Loca glue inside a mobile uncured and think the phone will be OK, your mad. It will damage the mobile phone over time guaranteed.
  • Is Loca glue a non corrosive substance? I would think any substance like that could cause damage over time.
