Sorry Brian I never made a note of the error code, at the time.
but I can login now so I'm happy I did notice when starting to login that the password box has already got a code entered "well a row of dots" and I have to delete this before entering my password or login fails, is this right. it's a bit confusing

that's the new login of the new theme just take out the code and enter your password for the forum
no need to worry

Just now I couldn't access the forum, for about a 1 minute and a half, it was stalling and then I got the following error message:

Yes I am getting the 502 gateway error often also.

Looks like it is server related. Lets wait it out as it may clear up on it's own.
