Hi All.

This is for those who would like a faster restart/shutdown in XP, just follow these simple steps, only enter the text that is in RED. This will give you three new icons on your desktop.

For a faster RESTART do this

1 Right click on the desktop and select New, Shortcut

2 Enter [shutdown -r -t 0 (zero)] without the brackets, in the box, click Next

3 Enter a name for the shortcut, e.g. Fastrestart, click Finish

4 Right click the new icon and select properties and just click OK on the warning box that appears

5 Select your new icon, OK , finished.

6 Make sure you have no programs running. Double click and away you go.

For a faster SHUTDOWN do this:

1 Right click on the desktop and select New, Shortcut

2 Enter [shutdown -s -t 0 (zero)] without the brackets, in the box, click Next

3 Enter a name for the shortcut e.g. Fastshutdown, click Finish

4 Right the new icon and select properties and just click OK on the warning box that appears

5 Select your new icon, OK , finished.

6 Make sure you have no programs running. Double click and away you go.

If you have gone for a fast shutdown and then wish you had'nt, then here is another tweak to stop the shutdown.

1 Right click on the desktop and select New, Shortcut

2 Enter [shutdown -a] without the brackets, in the box, click Next

3 Enter a name for the shortcut e.g. Stopshutdown, click Finish

4 Right the new icon and select properties and just click OK on the warning box that appears

5 Select your new icon, OK , finished. Double click and away you go.

I hope someone finds this useful.

cheers
