 Azn Brian and everyone,
I would like you to check out this "Youtube" video and let me know what you think ? I would like your advice on the way you would go about transferring the data from a old computer with XP installed and moved to a new Windows 7 install.

Also the client wants to be able to use her old Office to open her documents from the XP PC, do I uninstall the office from the old PC first and then install on the new Windows 7 PC or is it possible to just reinstall Office on the Windows 7 PC and not have any license problems ?

Look forward to your advice and may I take this chance to wish you all a very merry Christmas and happy new year  as always take care.

Hi Brian and Tmy,
Do you think it would work transferring data from one computer with xp on to another computer with windows 7. I don't want to transfer data from a dual boot computer like the you tube video, by the way it looks a great piece of software.

Thanks

 Azn GraFowler,
welcome to the forum hope you can find real help and advice here. I don't know if the software Zinstall will work or if it not just an elaborate scam ? You see I just got to thinking if this was really as good as it claims we would not be having this discussion, the whole world would know about it ands it would be all over the Internet.

If it turns out to be a real deal then hey it's the best thing since Windows and home computers as it will greatly improve the stumbling block from stopping people migrating to a new Windows operating system. Brian is the man and he said he would be testing the software over the weekend and hopefully report back with a positive out come.

If not I hope Brian or other members can come on and show us a way to save everything from old PC and clean install a new Windows 7 and transfer the old data from the old PC in such a way that it makes sense when you open up the new Windows, I have heard PC shops say "Premium data transfer" what that really means I don't know maybe members here can explain.

I hope your very happy here GraFowler and that you can find the help and advice your looking for all the best now take care everyone.

why don't you either backup to a server machine
backup to a external hard drive USB
USB Key
or online Backup Data  source there are hundreds of sites letting you save to the domain for a fee

I persionaly backup to a hard drive external then when it is nere to 100GB which is hard to hit even with 192,0000,99 files and sub directories including vidios x1000 Music 11,000 and many other files and it is only 1 quarter full you can even get 1 terrerbite hard drives now I have a 320GB hard drive and when it reaches to 100GB i will put that 100GB on a seprate 500GB Sata Drive

These are just a cuple of ways of backing up the software looks good but lets face it all you need to do is save the work with so much techniaolgy out there it is so easey to backup now more than ever before

Inverst in some of the following

usb External Hard Drive
USB Stick
Hard Drive
Server machine and run a server Backup everything there

website hostings sites such as mediafire.com

Hope This Helps

 Azn Bradley,
thanks for your input and it really is easier than ever before to back up your data. I use an external hard drive. What I was getting at was the method, for example you would need to either remove the hard drive and pop it in another PC as a slave navigate to the C:\ of the drive you wish to back up and just right click and copy over to a folder named "Old XP drive" or whatever you like on a external or on to the other hard drive.

But what I would like to know it this : Your hard drive can't boot and you want to do the back up which I detailed earlier which is straight forward, but how can you back up the drivers on the old drive so that when you have done your clean install you can easily reinstall the drivers.

Last point is, computer stores often say "Premium data transfer" what exactly would that mean ? I mean is it simply a matter of copying by right clicking on the old C:\ drive and pasting to a folder then dropping that folder on to the desktop of the new install ?

Thanks for all the great advice on the forum Bradley it's credit to you and the other moderators and members. Have you taken a look at the Zinstall video ? What did you make of it ? Real or scam ? Brian is going to be checking it out over weekend.

Take care Bradley and everyone.
