Clean Malware Using eScan AntiVirus Toolkit Utility

If you feel that your computer is infected by some malware, then you can try cleaning it using the eScan Antivirus Toolkit Utility. The eScan Antivirus Toolkit is a free utility that enables you to scan and clean viruses, spyware, adware and any other malware that may have infected your computer. The eScan Antivirus Toolkit requires no installation and can be run directly from anywhere, on your computer, USB Drive or from a CD ROM. It can also be run even if you already have other antivirus software installed on your computer.

The most salient features of the eScan Antivirus Toolkit Utility are :

• Scans and cleans your computer completely and provides reports of any viruses that it finds.
• Checks and cleans all illegal dialers that are present on your computer.
• Checks and clears you of any background illegal sniffers like spyware, adware, keyloggers etc.
• You can add this utility to the Windows startup to scan and clean your computer on every startup.
• No need to install. Just download and run the eScan Antivirus Toolkit to scan for viruses.
• Works on Microsoft Windows 2000, XP, Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 2008 (32 and 64 bit OS).

You can download the eScan Antivirus Toolkit Utility from http://www.escanav.com/english/index.asp The download is available in form of a self extracting archive. The file name is in the form mwav.exe. The download file size is around 106 MB, so it may take some time on slower connections.

Just double-click on the file mwav.exe to run the file. After agreeing to the end user license, you are shown a message that you should update to the latest virus definitions. This is actually a very good idea, and when the main interface opens up, you should click on the Update button to start updating the virus database.

The updating process may take many minutes to update the virus database. The eScan Updater window shows the progress as it downloads the virus database files from the Internet.

After the update has finished, you need to select what items and which areas of your computer you would like to scan. You can choose from memory, registry, startup objects, system folders, spyware and drives. It is recommended that you check the checkbox Scan Spyware. If you feel confused then just leave all the settings to default. Then click on the Scan & Clean button to start the scanning and cleaning process.

As it scans your system, you would shown a progress and the log window. When it finds infected files, they will be either deleted or renamed to .MWT files to render them inactive. After the scanning and cleaning process is finisied, you would be shown a summary of how many malware were found. At this stage, you can click on the Ok button to return to the main window of the eScan Antivirus Toolkit Utility

One of the other features of the eScan Antivirus Toolkit Utility is the network activity viewer tool - ViewTCP. To start the ViewTCP you can click on the button labeled View Network Activity on the main interface. This tool works similar to the TCPView tool by Mark Russinovich.

The eScan Antivirus Toolkit Utility is an easy, powerful and free tool to get rid of the malware infesting your computer. It does not interfere with any antivirus product which may be already installed on your system. If you are a computer administrator then you should keep it on a USB pen drive for one of those days when your system gets a virus.
