"Question, what happens if the computer won't boot into Safe Mode? As in it freezes whenever it tries loading the Drivers and Files for boot? Also, what if no matter what you do to BIOS, it won't boot off of any LiveCD or USB? I haven't tried a Floppy, but I don't think the computer even has a Floppy Drive either, and even if it did, I don't know where I can get a Floppy Disk. A relative somehow got a Virus on their computer that messed up their PC that bad, I can't do anything with it."

Something I wrote on Youtube, but I was directed here to ask. Anyway, yeah, a relative of mine somehow must have browsed enough pr0n to accumulate a virus this bad. Either that, or he downloaded an infected file, or fell for those "Your PC is Infected" scareware. Does it need a new Hard Disk or is there another way of fixing the PC? Btw, it's not a recent PC, it runs Windows XP. What do I do? I've tried a Dr. Web CureIt LiveCD but it wouldn't boot on it, nor my USB. I've tried a Linux LiveCD but it won't boot into that either. It won't boot into Safe Mode. What did he do to get the virus? What are some things I can tell him to get him to avoid getting another virus? Would this virus be considered a "Boot Sector" Virus? Can a Virus affect the BIOS as well?

welcome to the forum

One of the most effective ways of cleaning a computer heavily infected with viruses or malware is to Slave the computers harddrive to a good working computer with up-to-date virus scanners and malware scanners.
The reason for this is that working as a slave the infected operating system is not active so hopefully neither is the virus application. If the virus is not active hopefully it is easier to clean it off the infected harddrive.

Your infected hard drive is IDE and other computer is SATA?

Example:

One very useful device for doing this is a USB to IDE/SATA adapter capable of supporting both desktop computer harddrives and laptop harddrives. These adapters can be a little finicky to use first time if you haven't used one before.
