They don't give out installation discs anymore. That's why they didn't send one when I got he computer. When I first got it I was was supposed to copy system files, or something to black media like a DVD-R and I did, but that was 7 years ago and I can't remember what I did with them. That's why I was asking if there's some place I can download it.

Just to keep you up to date, what happened is I got infected with one of those fake anti viruses 2 weeks ago.I got it off my system the next day, but now my services keep crashing and my windows update isn't working.I thought maybe I didn't completely get rid of the virus, so the Friday before last(April 8th) I decicded to go through my system with a fine tooth comb.I spent the day running 6, or 7 different anti viruses, including Malwarebytes, combofix, AVG, super anti spyware, and from the bootable anti virus disc, bit defender, F-secure rescue, and Gdata.

It did find a few more things, but got rid of them.I scanned again and they all came up clean, but the problems remain. As far as my windows updates, i've tried everything else.....hot fix, aggressive hot fix, registering DLLs, uninstalling and copying/reinstalling system files back for wuauclt.exe, and installing the latest update client.Nothing works. This is so frustrating.

When I go to the windows update site sometimes it'll show 0KB for the updates it finds as in it won't even download them, but other times, like after I tried the aggressive hot fix, it would download them , but failed to install them. When I go to services and click on restart automatic updates wuauclt.exe shows up in task manager for like a minute, but just disappears. That little yellow shield icon never appears anymore.

Lets see what you have on your system, not sure what you have run or not run, so lets start by seeing if your are still infected.

Getting Hijackthis and installing it correctly

•   Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
•   Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
•   By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
•   Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
•   Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
•   Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
•   At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
•   Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
•   Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
•   Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
•   Paste the log in your next reply.
•   If you haven't already posted then start a new thread in the Virus/Trojan/Spyware/Malware forum
•   DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.
