How to Get Windows 7 Backup & Restore Back After Uninstalling Acronis True Image Home 11

I am running windows 7 Home Premium 64bit with service pack 1 installed on an Acer laptop. I recently installed a trial version of Acronis True Image Home 2011 to test it's capabilities. Since after the trial expired I am having a problem with the standard windows backup and restore in that it will not start when I click on it. Can you help with this?

 Azn stuartca

Welcome to the forum

Acronis True Image Home 2011 Cleanup Utility

The utility removes Acronis True Image Home 2011 and its components from Windows

This article applies to:
Acronis True Image Home 2011
Acronis True Image Home 2011 Plus Pack

(!) This tool is not compatible with Acronis True Image Home 2010.

Introduction

Acronis True Image Home 2011 can be removed via Add or Remove programs (Start -> Control Panel) for Windows XP or Program and Features (Start -> Control Panel) for Windows Vista and Windows 7.

If the product fails to be removed using this way, then the special Acronis True Image Home 2011 Cleanup Utility can be used to uninstall it.

Required components

Acronis True Image Home 2011 Cleanup Utility uses one additional component:
DevCon - command-line utility that is an alternative to the Windows Device Manager. This utility is required to remove Acronis traces from Device Manager. Read more in Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 311272.
If there is no DevCon in the system, you can download it from Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 311272, and place it in Windows\system32.

(!) For 64-bit operating systems DevCon needs to be copied to Windows\SysWOW64. Or you can just run Acronis True Image Home 2011 Cleanup Utility, and it will offer to remove Acronis True Image Backup Archive Explorer manually using the steps described in the article Removing Acronis Backup Archive Explorer.

Solution

If you have Acronis Startup Recovery Manager activated, please deactivate it before using the Acronis True Image Home 2011 Cleanup Utility:

The utility does not remove Acronis Secure Zone. If you have Acronis Secure Zone, please remove before using the Acronis True Image Home 2011 Cleanup Utility:

(!) If you have Windows 7 and Windows integration enabled to substitute the Windows Backup and Restore feature with Acronis True Image Home 2011 backups, please disable the integration in the product first. See Acronis True Image Home 2011: Windows Integration.

(!) If you have other Acronis products installed, the utility will damage their installation.

1.Download Acronis True Image Home 2011 Cleanup Utility, unpack and run it:

2.Please choose to delete all Acronis products from the system - type Y and hit Enter:

If you receive a WinZip message, just click Close:

3.You will be asked to close Windows Explorer instances since this is necessary to remove the tishell.dll and timounter.dll Acronis files, which interact with explorer.exe - type Y and hit Enter:

4.You will be also asked to reboot the system to complete the uninstallation. You can reboot the system later:

(!) After using Cleanup Utility, it is strongly recommended not to reboot the machine, go to Start -> Run -> regedit, and verify that there are no snapman*, tdrpman*, timounter strings in the following keys:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E967-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} -> UpperFilters and LowerFilters
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{71A27CDD-812A-11D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F} -> UpperFilters and LowerFilters

If there are, please remove them. Then you can reboot the machine.

More information

(!) Make sure that you use the correct Acronis Cleanup Utility for the product that you have. Using incorrect Acronis Cleanup Utility may lead to unpredictable results.

Thank you for your assistance, I went through the steps as described but unfortunately it did not work, or shall I say the problem is still the same - when I click on the windows backup and restore nothing happens. Before all these events I had set-up a weekly backup and that still runs very week without any input from me. I tried to reinstall the Acronis software but when I try to run it it comes up with product trial expired and then exits.

This fix should do the trick

Acronis True Image Home 2011: Disabling "Integrate True Image into Windows 7" Does Not Work

Symptoms

1. You disable Acronis True Image Home integration into Windows 7 Control Panel by deselecting Help -> Integrate True Image into Windows:

2. However, the integration still shows in Control Panel -> System and Security -> Backup and Restore:

Cause

This is a known issue.

Solution

(!) This has been fixed and the fix is available in the latest build of the product. See Installation of the Latest Update of an Acronis Product. After you install the latest build, switching off the integration will bring back both the Windows backup and restore option and the Windows backups:

The hell is up with this stupid ass product of Acronis? This fix does not work for me, neither does the zip file. The registry import gives me an error and this seems to be what everyone is linking. Please pardon my language but this product is pissing me off... And they want people to pay for this? The hell out of here. Now I'm sitting here waiting impatiently on how to fix this so I can finally get my backup going before I leave town in 5-6 hours.

Any idea?!? I don't have Acronis TrueImage installed so why is everyone linking pictures as to what to navigate to in the software??
